it wasn't sean's fault.
he could supervise children, he could. but he could only be in one room at once and people were everywhere that day. he'd almost missed it entirely-- the smoke creeping through the doorway of the living room.
"whoa, uh," he stammered, jumping up to go see that was going on. he followed the trail to the kitchen and the fire had grown a bit... out of control. "oh. okay. hey!" he called loudly. "everyone out. let's go, everyone get outside." he started running through the school, shooing any students he could find.
--
levi was pretty surprised and he didn't argue, running outside and standing in the grass, watching smoke erupt from a window. "shit," he muttered incredulously.

This was...our of hand. Very out of hand!
Jubilee didn’t know what had caused the problem. Underestimating how hot the pan would get, how much cooking oil she had put in, or her attempts to give the fire a little umph due to taking so long in her opinion. Maybe a bit of all three...Whatever the cause, she had gotten a little in over her head for simply trying to make a late night snack.
She had come tot he kitchen earlier to make a few pancakes, maybe extra for anyone else who might have wanted them. She had cooked breakfast and more with her more since she was young! How hard could it have been to make pancakes? Well, apparently very hard for her. She had prepped the pan as she had seen her late mother do, switched on the stove and waited a few minutes while she made the batter. But, it hadn’t felt hot enough, so she just did a tiny bit of fireworks to help increase the fire. Just enough, she had told herself. She had barely turned away to grab the batter before she smelled something burning. “What in the....OH CRUD!” In a matter of a minute everything was on fire, Jubilee snagging the pan to run under water in a panic, but now the sink had a fire going. Panicking further, the young teen grabbed a towel, knocking over the batter in her rush and trying to beat the fire out.
Until Sean’s voice came the doorway causing her to gasp and throw the pan out the nearest window into the grass.
By then, smoke was already billowing out the open windows, and the grass had caught fire from the grease filled pan. “PROFESSOR! We got a situation! I-I think I caught the kitchen on fire-!” Jubilee projected before she realized smoke rising from the yard. “The yard is fire!!!” She projected once more in greater panic.
If Cessily could say one thing, it was that the mansion was never short of excitement. The red head had simply been studying before the smell of smoke filled the air, and soon Sean Cassidy was rushing around telling them to get out. Well, she didn’t need to be told twice for that. She just wondered who was lighting the house on fire, a mutation gone wrong? A cooking incident?
The metal polymorph didn’t ask questions, quickly moving through a side door to get out, finding herself with the other students where she could see smoke coming from the kitchen. And was that...”Whoa! Hey, we got the lawn on fire!” She called to the others, jumping into action to shift her hands into shovel-like shapes, rushing to scoop up as much dirt as she could and tossing it on the fire to slow it down.

Charles just wanted one peaceful night after all the insanity they had dealt with lately. He should have known better. Immediately there was a jumble of voices in his head, some panicked and others confused, though one rung out much louder than the rest. “PROFESSOR! We got a situation! I-I think I caught the kitchen on fire-!” ”Get out of the kitchen, Jubilee.” Charles thought back to her, calmly and clearly. He had barely gotten out of his study when she added an addendum. ”The yard is on fire!!!” ”Get outside, on the street.” Immediately he began searching for and evacuating students still on the upper floor, sending them downstairs with the instruction to get outside and look for one of the other adults.
Sean had told Charles that there was no way to prepare for every possible thing that could go wrong when they first opened the school. Of course, that didn’t stop him from trying. He had known that there would be accidents, that kids would get hurt. He had considered common disasters, and the idea that people may try to attack them because of what they were. He made sure that all of the students knew where to find first aid supplies and all of the entrances and exits. But somehow “Jubilee sets the house on fire making pancakes in the dead of the night” was not a regularly scheduled emergency drill.
Something to consider for the future, apparently.
It wasn’t until he got the last of the students out that he was actually able to see the fire and it was.. significantly worse than he thought. ”There are fire extinguishers by the training room.”
”I got it,” Pietro offered, running inside before Charles even had a chance to tell him where exactly they would be.
”I’m going to call the fire department.” Charles said, because this was beyond the scope of what they could deal with themselves and if they waited too long, going in the house to make a phone call wouldn’t be an option.
