POWERS & ABILITIES

Rico has the ability to sense and manipulate electromagnetic waves. This has several applications but mostly comes down to him being very good at eavesdropping. 

SENSORY: It's like a sixth sense for him. He can tell that the waves are moving nearby just as he can see or hear stimuli that other people are able to pick up on. He can also cross this sensory information with other senses. He can listen in on conversations happening over radio and he can see waves moving from the input to the output location. It's worth noting that these waves aren't being picked up by his eyes or ears. For examples, his brain can give the waves a physical representation for him to recognize but were he to be blinded he would have no problem locating these signals. 

MANIPULATION: This additional sense also allows Rico to interrupt or redirect these waves. He cannot replace any messages being sent with something new but he can prevent a message from being received. 

LIMITATIONS: Not only does Rico have this sense but it is involuntary-- he cannot shut it off and on at will. Being surrounded by a lot of different electromagnetic waves can be incapacitating if at a high enough degree. They also cause migraines quite often and he is trying to figure out how to tune some of the information out to avoid sensory overload. 

BRIEF HISTORY

Rico was born in Argentina and brought to an orphanage at a young age. He was identified as a mutant before he turned ten and was brought to the U.S. on a ship with a bunch of other mutant children because there wasn't a lot of information about them and people were afraid. Mutants were basically considered demons and people wanted them as far away as possible. 

As a young teenager he found himself working on trains and appreciating the free transportation. By the time he was seventeen he was wandering around NYC where talk of mutants was far more prevalent than he'd been accustomed to.  It was basically a witch hunt and once someone found out what Rico could do, he was detained by the U.S. government before he even realized he'd had a target on his back. 

The government wanted spies and Rico wanted food. The arrangement worked for a few years but when he started thinking that he wanted nothing to do with it, it became clear that leaving wouldn't be so simple.

Today he continues to spy while preparing to bribe his way out of the Pentagon.
