duke has an enhanced thought processing ability, which results in him having superior intelligence and cognizant use of his brain than the average person. this does not give him any additional skills or knowledge, but rather allows him to acquire skills and knowledge with very little effort compared to others without this ability.

like many with a genius iq, duke possesses an exceptionally strong memory, pattern recognition, and deductive reasoning skills. because he can process so much information so quickly, he is able to quickly calculate and analyze the probable outcomes of a situation in a way that might seem eerie to someone who doesn’t understand how his mind works. he’s won many fights not due to any particular physical prowess, but by understanding his opponents and using their own failures and shortcomings against them.

thanks to his accelerated processing and knowledge he’s worked to acquire, duke also as a fair degree of mental discipline and self-awareness. he understands how his brain works on both a psychological and neurological level, and so he is able to consciously use parts of his brain that act subconsciously in the average person. this includes things like ignoring pain or lucid dreaming. with practice and knowledge he could also easily shield himself from mental attacks, however he does not currently possess that skill because he has no idea that people with those types of abilities exist.

because his abilities rely completely on his processing speed and mental awareness, they can very easily be combated by stimulants, sedatives, or anything that similarly effects his ability to focus and think.

BRIEF HISTORY

-duke was born in rural texas, where he grew up living and working on a large horse ranch that had been in his family for generations.
-as soon as he started school teachers noticed that he was exceptionally gifted. he flew through his primary grades, and achieved numerous recognitions for winning math and science competitions at a state and national level.
-as a child, he spent a lot of his free time building rockets, learning illusionary magic tricks that he thought would help him land girls, and serving detentions for talking back to teachers and other figures of authority. 
-he graduated two years early and and went to yale on a full scholarship, eager to get out of his boring hometown. he recently acquired a masters degree in biochemistry and is pursing a phd and getting involved in the fairly new field of neuroscience
