POWERS & ABILITIES
Corrine’s mutation is a physical one. The most notable about it is that she has biological iron spiky growths showing on portions of her body, generally around the framing of her face, her forearms and back of her hands, her shoulders to her upper back to down her spine, her sides, outer sides of her thighs, and front part of her forelegs from the knee down to the top of her feet. This iron-like bone extends to the rest of her bone structure, all of which resemble dull silver chrome in color and rough texture to it. But, these bones are not for aesthetic alone, but rather Corrine has what can be called iron bone manipulation.
Though Corrine cannot control the entirety of her bone structure, she can manipulate the overgrowth of bone showing on the surface of her skin. These spikes can be extended or retracted at will, going as far as a foot at max and an inch when fully retracted. Although this could change with time and practice. These bony spikes can also be shaped into a kind of dermal armor plating, becoming a rough but flatter appearance, although with time and training could create a full exoskeleton she could create that can be altered based on her own thought to what it’s “shape” should be. Still, Corrine can control how dense and thick or flexible these growths are as well as change their shape. The most she has been able to achieve is rudimentary bladed or blunt weapons and small shields. She can also create makeshift claws and control which part of her body she can extend the spikes out of and fire these spikes as mid-range projectiles. In addition, Corrine has a healing factor to compensate for the constant shifting or removal of the growths or if they are broken off and has enhanced strength and variable durability.
But, on the downside, Corrine’s growths are limited to the areas they grow out from. Spots lacking these spikes she cannot grow more at, and neither is she’s capable of fully retracting the growths to blend in better. Her bones also make her considerably heavy despite an athletic build, slowing her speed and agility and requiring some creativity on her part to compensate. She also has no formal training in using her abilities so has yet to achieve many strides in what her powers can really do, and despite a healing factor the use of these growths can be painful. Her powers also require a diet rich in iron and calcium as her body draws on these nutrients to rapidly grow or replace these spikes as they are used. Corrine also has shown a conflicting personality, sometimes being quiet and shy as a wallflower or expressing a stubborn side and bit of a temper.
Outside her powers, Corrine has some knowledge of using firearms via her family, primarily handguns and shotguns and basic hand-to-hand combat. Though quiet, she is attentive and observant, having a bit of a detective in her and has recently gone for a double Bachelor’s in Archeology and Psychology.
BRIEF HISTORY
Corrine’s life growing up was somewhere a cross between normal and turbulent.
On the one hand, Corrine grew up with a loving, dedicated family of albeit a bit lower on the financial totem pole. Being in the middle class, her family didn’t have much, but they still found ways to get by and did what they could for her and her two younger siblings. Anyone would think they were a normal, every day family just working to live their lives from day to day. Belonging to a multi-generational family home, Corrine spent many of her younger years in Fairbanks, Alaska and Valdez where her grandparents would spend their summers on their pugettrawler fishing boat. Though she only knew her maternal grandparents, the family was always close. Fishing, hunting, family outings with the snow machines, going into town, life probably couldn’t be more simple but fun.
The unfortunate thing however is that Corrine was born a second generation mutant, both of her parents being mutants before her. To add onto this, Corrine was also a quiet, shy child growing up. Between dealing with her gradual showing of her mutation to going to school, she had few friends and many bullies, more so for her quietness and being a wallflower to the eventual emergence of her spikes when she was in middle school. Though she had a small knit group, there was little they could do to stop the social backlash of being a “freak of nature” in the eyes of her peers.
Frustrated, Corrine could do little more than try and focus on her studies and family, as many of her teachers did nothing as they seemed to not know how to tackle such a situation themselves. But things changed when Corrine discovered her siblings likewise became the source of ridicule by the time she was a Junior. Her brother, two years younger than herself, she discovered caught up in a fight over his own mutant abilities in the hall one morning and without hesitation came to his defense. For the first time, she extended her spikes causing the group who had jumped her brother to quickly back off. The quiet girl she had been soon fell away for the most part as Corrine began to finally stand up for herself and eventually graduated with honors.
After she did, her and most of her family moved to a city on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia where her siblings would continue their schooling while Corrine decided to travel across the country. Eager to see beyond what she had known, she left home for a year before applying to a handful of colleges the at the age 20, eventually ending up in New York to study Archeology and Psychology and is currently in her last year.
