POWERS & ABILITIES
Heather has quite the unique mutation. The first part of her mutation involves a danger sense, that is she can psionically and subconsciously detect danger in her immediate vicinity. The secondary part of her mutation triggers a reactive metamorphosis in which her body will spontaneously “evolve” to negate or end the danger which is always automatic and something she cannot control. Every shift or alteration to her genetics results in what her body deems appropriate for the situation, and instinctively Heather will know how to use these new powers within a few seconds of gaining them.
Unfortunately, Heather was left with additional, permanent changes to her body upon the first spontaneous evolution out of stress. Her form has been left with a flexible, biological golden form in addition to resembling an avian with massive feathered wings, three clawed fingers with an opposable thumb, and feathered hair. Black markings can also be seen throughout her form.
As stated above, the biggest weakness is that Heather cannot select and choose the abilities her body manifests, nor does she have the ability to change out of her Nemesis form. Neither can she turn off her danger sense, meaning most times she will know danger is near regardless, but she cannot always necessarily pinpoint said danger. Though seemingly confident and out-going, Heather is quite self-conscious about her form, tending to bottle up her negative emotions that can backfire on her later. And her more avian form seems to trigger more of a primal state in her when infuriated that she cannot always control.
Aside from this, Heather is a trained lifeguard, equipped to handle CPR, first aid, and basic medical needs as well as to recognize danger. She is also an excellent swimmer and multilingual in English, Spanish, Mandarian, Vietnamese, Italian, and broken Arabic and Greek.
BRIEF HISTORY
Heather Cameron is a mutant originating from Surfer’s Paradise, Australia along with her estranged twin brother, Davis Cameron. When it came to these two, both were technically the children of the “Viceroy” Miles Warbeck, one of the head honchos of Australia’s organized crime syndicates in the area. Though they would never know this until much later in life as their mother hid this from her then-boyfriend and seemingly disappeared.
Before long, the twins were born but abandoned at an orphanage for their safety. They were raised there for a short time before the Camerons came along, adopting both siblings and settling in the area. Their life after that proved to be relatively normal and uneventful, just a typical life one would expect for a four person family home. Heather herself was heavily involved in swimming growing up while her brother became more of the surfer type as they got older and both had their respective hobbies and friends but were always close.
By the time they were teenagers, Heather had made a decision early on to pursue being a lifeguard and began her training when she was 17. Though she never really pursued college, she became dedicated to her work and being a swimmer, enjoying her job as a lifeguard at the local beach and seemed content with life. She even became one of the first people to learn CPR when the technique became more available to the public in 1960, giving her greater pride that she was able to improve her chances of saving lives. What Heather was not aware of however was her status as a mutant, not at first at least. Her danger sense had manifested when a teenager and was subtle for sometime until the year she had turned 22 in which case everything changed for her and her brother.
Like any other day, Heather drove to the beach early one morning with Davis, expecting to start an early shift for her duties. However, something triggered her danger sense stronger than before, causing her to quietly tell her twin something was wrong and urged him to follow her to the nearby surf shop. Only seconds later were the two attacked by opposing groups of the recently deceased Viceroy. It is unknown how the information came into their hands, but the sudden volley of bullets triggered Heather’s and Davis’ respective abilities in their fullest: Davis’ teleportation “wave” caused him to end up halfway across Australia while Heather’s triggered her form to become solid gold metal to make her bullet proof and manifesting avian features to escape and fight her way out. Both siblings hid out at their respective locations for a few days before Davis returned via his wave and Heather emerging from one of the shacks further down from the beach.
But the reunion was not the most joyous one. Davis reacted in shock and disgust to his sister’s mutation, appalled to the stress induced form that did not return to normal. Despite Heather’s attempts her twin rejected her and considered his sister dead before leaving. Luckily, Heather did find solace in the support of her concerned parents who themselves had only discovered the truth of the attack. Though shaken, the young Australian woman managed to gradually accept her powers, taking later shifts to protect and use her powers to save lives. Well, until three years ago when the Australian government came looking for her based on accounts of her more obvious mutation. Once again her danger sense reacted, triggering a sudden teleport she was not expecting other than knowing her life was in danger. After a series of blind teleports, she eventually ended up in the United States and collapsed from exhaustion in Westchester.
Presence not missed, she was taken in by the X-Men after telling them she was seeking shelter. Ever since then, Heather has become one of the new teachers and mentors at the school, slowly piecing her life back together.
