On warm, cloudless evenings like that day, an evening in Central Park would seem ideal for most. The sun was just beginning to disappear behind the many buildings of brick and metal, casting the sky in hues of bright oranges, yellows, and reds and a light breeze blew through the park. It was warm but not stifling.
For one college student it was the perfect time to catch up on her studies.
Corrine had found a fairly quiet and I crowded spot to lay out a blanket, a few textbooks laid out from her bag across it. Normally most people would only do such things for gatherings or picnics, but the quiet nights in the park tended to be relaxing and helped her focus. And very rarely was she bothered seeming as her appearance both made her blend in and stand out at the same time. From behind one would think her a normal woman, her physical mutation hidden behind clothes until they looked closer, a faint metal shine on the spikes that adorned her body. Though, tonight it seemed quite lacking with people which she didn’t mind as she had her jacket folded up beside her, exposing the halter top that seemed to be coming back in style. Not that she was complaining, it gave her room to stretch and extend her spikes when she needed to, as well as having to not worry about ruining more of her clothing due to the restrictive styles they once had until recent years.
And quite frankly she was glad not to deal with significant stares towards her direction or harassing comments as she studied. All she really did was mind her own business as she did now, occasionally flipping a page or going between each book. But sitting there for a few hours already, she could feel her body beginning to cramp up somewhat, yawning as she felt some tiredness tugging at her limbs. “Hm, time to take a small break.” She find herself, pushing herself to her feet and giving a long stretch as well as extending her iron-like spikes flinching as she heard a surprised gasp from a lady passing by.
“Hi...” Corrine waved sheepishly, frowning as the older woman gave her hateful, judging glare before scurrying off no doubt disgusted by the “freak” she had seen. “Sheesh, you see worse in a traveling circus.” The young woman grumbled, failing to notice she had attracted someone else’s attention as well.
