POWERS & ABILITIES

Pietro is capable of doing basically everything at supersonic speeds. On a scientific level, what he’s actually doing is accelerating his own molecules, which allows him to both run at a speed faster than sound, and handle physically being able to move that fast without negative conscience. While moving quickly, Pietro is able to briefly defy gravity the way a fast moving projectile like a bullet might, and hit things with significantly greater force than an object moving more slowly. Pietro also appears to be perceiving, thinking, and reacting to things at hyper speed, since for him, the world effectively always moving in slow motion.

To facilitate his abilities, Peitro has a hyper-accelerated metabolic rate, which means he regenerates cell and recovers from injuries more quickly than the average person. He can still be injured, and will still require medical attention for anything a normal human might, but once he has that, the actual bones, tissues, etc inside his body will mend in days where it would take a normal person’s weeks. His body also more quickly burns through things he consumes such as nutrients and stimulants, especially while he is moving at his top speeds.

That’s effectively what ‘caps’ his limits at shorts bursts rather than marathons of hyper-speed (well, that and that fact that existing at a speed no one else in the world can see him at would be incredibly boring). Running miles in seconds requires an insane amount of stored energy and his body only has so much space to store it. Could he technically run across the entire planet if he wanted to? Yes. Would he be able to without stopping to consume hundreds of thousands of calories and multiple gallons of water? No.

Another thing worth noting is that Pietro can obviously travel with other people or objects that he’s holding or that are attached to his person, however unlike him, very few things are designed to move at such fast speeds with no repercussions. People often feel ill and can also be severely injured if not properly supported while being whisked around as hyper-speed, and he’s broken and worn through literally hundreds of pairs of shoes. 

BRIEF HISTORY

Pietro is the byproduct of brief affair between Erik Lensherr and Ksyusha Maximoff, a Russian woman who escaped to America during the second World War. Though Lensherr had left the picture before Pietro was born, and his mother claimed she had no idea who his father was, she was (exasperated but) in no way surprised when her young son began showing signs of being a mutant.

Pietro was a handful as a child and that was only multiplied by the fact that he knew he could get away with literal murder if he wanted to. Visits from the cops to their house became common place, either to return Pietro from wherever he’d run off to or search him for whatever he had undoubtedly stolen. Ksyusha tried about every parenting method in the books but there wasn’t much she could do besides beg Pietro not to be so much himself. Spoiler alert, it didn't work.

He set numerous records for sports in school and earned the name ‘Quicksilver’ after dying his hair before a track meet. He actually made an effort to go slow during those events, so people could at least see him, and the attention he received was mostly positive. Unfortunately, he didn’t always remember to go slow, and he ended up accidentally injuring a friend badly when pulling him along so they didn’t miss a bus one day. At the hospital, Pietro had been questioned and detained with a charge of first degree assault, though he was mostly so he could be transferred to a facility where they could experiment study his mutation.
