(this thread is for @jebediahcole and @jack and 'Sissy' Cole)
1965... winter...christmas eve
Waylon sat on a dusty old couch in front of the only window, one panel of it was busted out and patched with cardboard, the old tattered curtains (that was once pink) had been pushed to the side so by Waylon so he could look out at the falling snow. It was going to be a rare Christmas for the Cole family but also for the other's in little Odd, the Baron had gifted each family 1 extra box with odds and ends of foods to make dinner. The Cole family took in four younger kids (they weren't gifted anything if they didn't have a family) for the holidays so they could eat too.
Jeb and Jack were making the food, actually Jeb had been allowed to go hunting this year and should have been back by now. Jack prepared the other food while Sissy tended the kids. Waylon had been volunteered to help Sissy but his patience with the other kids was short fused and he had been excused to help Jack....who was handling everything in the small kitchen just fine. They had set up a small tree with one string of lights that didn't work and Sissy had made the kids some mittens for gifts.
"bub can you comb my hair?" Sissy asked cutting the silence of the room, Waylon smiled and nodded because he was glad for the interruption. His mind had began to wonder down that familiar self loathing highway, "What are the kids doin'? Come on sit."
Sissy handed Waylon the brush and sat on the floor in front of Waylon as he gently began to comb his sister's hair (something he had done almost a million times since their Momma had passed), "their just sittin and readin those picture books we've had since we were youngins."
"Well that's good, recon it's better than just collectin dust, sorry I'm not as gentle as ma was," Waylon apologized accidentally pulling the brush across a knot of hair and sissy just smiled, "you do fine Waylon."
Sissy was always Waylons biggest fan, the two were tight. Closer than him and Jeb that was for sure and not that that two didn't love each other because they did but they had vastly different personalities.
